Semester Overview
Well to put it bluntly, this semester kicked my butt. The weeks flew by but it has felt like I lived five lifetimes since summer break. It feels like I have different hats that I put on everywhere I go. Having this feeling and juggling all of these different worlds is insanely stressful and overwhelming at times. I feel like I have compiled two years of work into one semester. All of that and overloading my course schedule did not make for a great semester, mentally at least. I can't believe I didn't mess anything up too bad. Sure I had a few little mistakes here and there and had to make a lot of sacrifices, but I think I did OK. I just hope all of this is worth it at some point. I know it will be, I have started to see it pay off already.
I have a lot to look forward to during the spring semester, but I hope it flies by. I am excited for my lighter course schedule, the Germany trip, starting new positions and going to Charlotte, North Carolina for Leadership Assembly in March. However, I am already counting down the days until my sister is here. I have friends, but having someone who will always be there and able to hang out with me will be life changing. I can't believe that in a week I am officially half way done with college...it honestly kind of scares me. Don't get me wrong I can't wait to graduate and start a real life, but I love ONU and the family I have created for myself here. However, this semester really broke me down and weathered me. I had so many amazing opportunities and took them all. I am proud that I can say that because that's what college is all about. The longer I sit here and write this, the more things I remember about the semester. Some small things that I crammed into my schedule were actually really good opportunities, so I am glad I squeezed everything in. An example that comes to mind is speaking to Dean Navin's Board on behalf of the PR program. I loved doing that and learned a lot from it, but that isn't necessarily the first thing that comes to mind when recapping the semester. The obvious highlights include going to Anaheim, California and Disneyland for the first time, going back to New York to take photos at the James Beard House and traveling to Cincinnati with my PRSSA Chapter. Other highlights were being selected as Alpha Xi's new Vice President of Membership, working with Student Planning Committee to promote events and just my amazing professors. While this semester was hard, all of my professors were amazing and remind me every day why I chose ONU. Having those relationships truly changes one's college experience and this semester I have really great relationships with all of my professors, which is why I was able to take all of the opportunities presented to me. I am going to miss Kutch always asking me tough questions, Dr.Moore's kind demeanor, Franquesa's accent and fun jokes, Lambdin's dad jokes and well...there is no escaping Aggie! I have two of her classes next semester, so say a prayer to the news quiz Gods for me!
Maddy, you have done such an amazing job this year!! I'm so happy we've gotten to know each other just a little better because you are such a sweet girl. You wear all of your hats so well and my only advice is to never wear a hat that makes you feel like someone you're not.
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling a similar way about graduation being so close since deciding to graduation early. I hope next semester you can really soak in the exciting experiences you have lined up and bask in the college life before senior year. When you get stressed out just know you are absolutely kicking butt, and I can't wait to see what you continue to accomplish!
I bet you are just as excited for this semester to end as I am. I think you probably deserve more of a break than I do. But nevertheless I hope you have a good break and can come back rejuiced and ready for 2025!
ReplyDeleteI know this semester has been a busy one for you, but I have no doubt that you accomplished everything you needed to with greatness! Enjoy your winter break and take time for yourself. Best of luck on finals, you're almost there!
