Thanksgiving Break Recap
Well, my countdown to Thanksgiving came to an exciting end, and I finally got to enjoy a much-needed break at home! With that countdown ending, of course, a new one begins. I can’t believe there are fewer than two weeks until I go home for winter break. Thanksgiving being so late this year was really weird, but honestly kind of nice.
My Thanksgiving break was a dream and went by way too fast. On the first day of the break, I went on a little dinner date with my dad. We had so much fun that we ended up hanging out for the Ohio State game together the next day, too! After the game, my dad and I went to my youngest cousin’s 16th birthday party. It’s so weird that all the kids in the family are old enough to have their own cars, significant others, and opinions. We had a lot of fun hanging out with my dad’s side of the family, which got me ready to spend even more time with family for Thanksgiving.
The next day, my mom and I babysat Millie all day! She was the best. I love her. I don’t know how else to put it, really. It’s kind of scary to look into her eyes because they look so much like mine. I could convince people that pictures of me at her age are actually of her and that photos of her now could be of me 18 years ago. She’s starting to talk up a storm. This was the day before Nick came home, so we FaceTimed him. She kept saying “Come home” over and over again into the phone after we hung up, and it was just the cutest thing.
Monday night, I picked up Nick from the airport. The suspense before seeing each other is dreadful, but the moment we first see each other is like no other feeling. Of course, while I was waiting in the airport pickup line, he texted me that the airline lost his bag. I ended up sitting there for an hour before he got into my car, but of course, it was worth the wait. He always has some sort of travel problem when he comes home.
We were so happy to be together. I actually can’t describe many details from the rest of the week because it was all just time with family. Nick and I were attached at the hip for all of it. It felt like a whirlwind of all my favorite things, and it was amazing. I didn’t want to come back to Ada at all. Now that I’m back, I’ve remembered that I love this place almost as much as my house, but the people who love me just aren’t here. Leaving them after a week of being surrounded by their love is hard. If Thanksgiving break is any indication of how winter break will be, I’m even more excited—it really was a dream.
Then Nick left...and I got sick. My sister had a little bug for a couple of days after Thanksgiving, and I woke up with it the day Nick left. I had a horrible fever, my entire body ached, and I had absolutely no appetite. I’m still achy and have little appetite, but I’m slowly getting better. I wish I were at home on my couch, not grinding out schoolwork before dead week and running around like an idiot trying to get everything done and attend all my meetings. Counting down the days once again!
I am happy you got to see Nick! I'm also counting down the days to Christmas break after it felt like Thanksgiving break flew past. I am wishing you the best as you fight your sickness.
ReplyDeleteHopefully you can get back to your full health soon! Being sick is the worst, especially when you still have so much to do! Two more weeks and then we are there!
